The one thing that completely grabs your attention with MY NAME IS TONI
is the cover design. Completely, utterly impossible to ignore the intricate art
work that in a strange way gives you the clue about what the book is all about.
The cover technically grabs you by the balls. Then you read the book, and you realise
your balls, or their equivalent, are grabbed over and over.
MY NAME IS TONI is a book about struggles. Struggles we can all identify
with – struggles with identity, religion, love, life, immigration, marriage and
sex. It is about hitting rock bottom several times and getting back up.
Most importantly, Waithira delves into a topic a lot of people
unfortunately find taboo, or shameful; SEX. Without turning into a spoiler,
allow me to tell when this book should be read. In private, for starters. Not because
there is anything shameful in the content, but because the content is likely to
make a certain part of your body have a mind of its own *wink wink*.
It is a book about sex, sexuality, the realities of both, and an interesting
journey of how Toni learned how to enjoy one of the most beautiful creations of
God; sex. She is not asking you to do it like she does, she is asking you to
enjoy it. Waithira is quick to point out that, although the book is based on
her own experiences, a lot of it has been fictionalised.

Wanted to read it chapter per day. Started in the matatu on my way home after getting my copy. This was for just a feel of it. Read two chapters and thought no, I need to set a date for this. Three days later, I was travelling to Mombasa and carried it. I didn't put it down till Voi. I was through. Then you set another date for a slow digestive read.
